Director of Housing Development
This role will lead the planning and execution of Housing Trust–developed neighborhoods, including Cold Smoke, from concept through construction and occupancy. This position will work closely with the Executive Director and serve as the internal lead on Housing Trust–developed real estate projects. Success in this role looks like moving complex, multi-year housing projects from planning through construction while coordinating consultants, partners, lenders, and funding partners.

Compensation:
Starting at $100,000 annually, with flexibility for candidates bringing significant experience in housing development, project management, or related fields.
Position Overview
Big Sky Community Housing Trust is a nonprofit focused on creating and preserving long-term, affordable workforce housing in the Big Sky community. BSCHT seeks a Development Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of its housing developments from concept to completion. This role is central to ensuring that the people who work in Big Sky can live here, too.
The ideal candidate is mission-driven, detail-oriented, and experienced in housing or real estate development, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the development lifecycle of housing projects, including feasibility, entitlements, budgeting, financing, construction, and close-out.
- Develop and track project schedules, budgets, and reporting milestones.
- Coordinate and lead project teams, serving as the primary contact for contractors, consultants, architects, and other partners.
- Prepare and maintain development pro formas and financing packages; work with lenders, investors, and funders to keep projects on track.
- Represent BSCHT at public meetings and with local agencies, community partners, and stakeholders.
- Ensure projects meet all applicable zoning, land use, environmental, and funding requirements; maintain documentation and reporting.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience managing housing or real estate development projects.
- Strong knowledge of affordable housing finance, development process, and construction oversight.
- Proficient in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication, budgeting, and problem-solving skills.
